Jessica Carty Holywood G.C.beat Niamh McSherry (Lurgan) in the final of the Hughes Insurance Ulster Women’s Championship final at Belvoir Park Golf Club. Twenty three competitors braved the rain, gale force winds and weak sunshine over the three day competition at one of Ulster’s best inland courses.

QUALIFYING NEWS Louise Coffey (Malone) led the qualifiers at the Ulster Women’s Championship at Belvoir Park Golf Club, 15-17 April, kindly sponsored by Hughes Insurance.
Tough weather conditions after the overnight rain made the going very trying for the competitors.
After round one, the top scorer was Lucy Simpson (Massereene) with a gross score of 79, left her leading the field by 2 shots. Louise Coffey (Malone) and Jessica Carty (Holywood) returned a score of 81.  Victoria Bradshaw (Bangor) returned a very competitive 82 and Laura Grant (Lisburn) shot an 83.  The rest of the field was tightly bunched with the course record all to play for as the players went out for their second round in difficult conditions.
The scores were much improved in the second round with a tremendous gross score of 73 from Louise Coffey (Malone) who scored the course record.  Lucy Simpson (Massereene) and Jessica Carty (Holywood) followed their earlier good rounds with an excellent score of 77. Victoria Bradshaw (Bangor) also improved on her earlier round with a gross score of 79.

Violet McBride (Belvoir Park) won the Teddy Morrison Salver for the best 36-hole gross player over twenty five years of age and Pauline Bailie (Belvoir Park) having played 36 holes qualified in the top sixteen for the first round of Match Play.
