In what is reported to be the youngest ever semi final lineup with the age range between 15 – 19 years, all four players battled gallantly through the challenging Ballybunion links in winds gusting up to 40 mph.
Lisa took a convincing lead on Olivia and was one under par through 4 and 5 up after 5.  Olivia fought back with a birdie at the par 3 8th, where she had her hole in one earlier in the week and won the 11th to be 3 down.  Lisa, however, was not to be outdone and she won the 12th as Olivia 3 putted, birdied the 13th to go dormie and halved the 14th to reach the final of the Championship which she won in 2009.
Paula Grant started well against Jessica Carty and was 3 up after 4 holes.  With winds never abating Jessica managed to birdie the 9th, won the 12th and with Paula conceding the 13th the match was suddenly all square.  With the momentum now against her, Paula managed to win the 14th with a magnificent up and down for par.  Jessica conceded a birdie putt on the 16th and the match had turned again –  Paula was dormie 2 and won on the 17th.

Quarter Finals Olivia Mehaffey secured a semi final place with a 4&3 win against Maria Dunne.  Olivia started well and recorded birdies at the 8th and 9th to turn 6 up.  Maria fought back and reduced the deficit however Olivia’s shot to 8 ft for birdie on the 203 yard par 3 secured the win.  Lisa Maguire had a tight match against Amy Farrell which went to the 18th where Lisa won with conceded par putt.  Lisa will now play Olivia in the morning.
Jessica Carty with superb course management in the gale force conditions won her match against Pat Doran on the 15th and will play her Ulster and International team mate Paula Grant who defeated Deirdre Smith for a place in tomorrow afternoons final.
Despite gale force winds and sunshine coming in off the Atlantic, the class Ballybunion links held its own …. Olivia Mehaffey continues her impressive match play form defeating past champion Karen Delaney and advances to this afternoon quarter finals where she will play Maria Dunne.  Maria had a great tussle against Carla Reynolds with the match all square after 13, Maria went ahead with pars on the tough par 3 14th & 15th holes, both birdied the 16th but Maria held on to secure her win with par on the home green. Amy Farrell played level par golf in extremely testing conditions to defeat her Leinster team mate Mary Doyle and will now play Lisa Maguire who had a ding dong match against Leona before winning on the 19th with a super up and down from the greenside bunker. Senior International Pat Doran demonstrated her expertise of links to defeat Hannah Henderson and will play Holywood’s Jessica Carty whose immaculate short game proved too good for Mary Dowling.  Paula Grant defeated her fellow Ulster team mate Louise Coffey 4&2 with precision play over the tough links and will play past champion Deirdre Smith who defeated fellow International Chloe Ryan on the 17th.
Much to the delight of the locals Mary Sheehy (Tralee) reaches the final of the Ita Wallace Trophy (Plate) and will play Ballinrobe’s upcoming star Shannon Burke.  The final will commence at 2.30pm.
