Local favourite Sinead Sexton (pictured with Lahinch President Valerie Hassett & Lady Captain Aedín McCarthy) fired a second round 74 to win the Vaughan Trophy 36 Hole Scratch Cup at Lahinch Golf Club on Saturday 27 April.

Sinead opened her tournament with a sparkling 73 to tie with Birr’s Patrice Delaney at lunchtime. Patrice slipped down the field with a 79 in the afternoon while the gap was closed to just one stroke by Lucy Simpson (Massereene) who signed for a brace of 74s.  Next best was Co. Louth’s Deirdre Smith on 152, to tie with Delaney, while Gemma McCarthy (Clonmel) returned 77 and 79 to finish 5th.  With three events now completed in the ILGU’s Scratch Cup Circuit, players will record a maximum of four of their best performances from the two remaining events. The Champion will be crowned following the Zara Bolton Trophy at Royal Portrush on Sunday 19th May. For clarification, players do not need to compete in 4 events to be eligible for Order of Merit points.
