Irish Schools Championship – Ulster District Portstewart (Riverside Course) Golf Club – Friday 8th March 2013

Gale force winds, driving rain and freezing conditions made life very tough for the players though there were many excellent scores at the Ulster Finals of the Schools Championship on Friday 8th March.
One of the highlights was from Hannah King (Strathearn) taking a 5 iron had a magnificent hole-in-one at the 147 yard 4th hole.
St Mary’s High School and Belfast Royal Academy won the Senior & Junior Cups respectively and no qualify to represent Ulster in the All Ireland Finals which will be held at Milltown Golf Club on 29th April.
Results: Senior Cup Winners:   St Mary’s High School – Niamh McSherry, Annabel Wilson and Eadaoin Ward – 58pts

Runners Up:     St Michael’s – Niamh Ward and Cara Murphy  – 41 pts

3rd:  Strathearn – Hannah King, Ellyn Anderson and Jenna Kerr – 39pts

Junior Cup: Winners: Belfast Royal Academy – Judithe Allen and Amy O’Donnell – 47 gross pts

Runners Up: Coleraine High School- Ciara Richmond, Helen Tweedie and Koren Ferguson – 25pts

3rd:  Victoria College – Ara McCartan and Susie Rankin – 15 pts

Individual Results: Senior Gross:   Niamh Ward (St Michaels)  28 gross

Senior Nett:        Alison Forsythe (MCB)  37 nett

Junior Gross:     Niamh McSherry (St Mary’s)  32 gross

Junior Nett:         Chloe Fitzpatrick(St Columbans)    37 nett

Mid Leinster Schools Championships will be held at Callan Golf Club on 22nd March

Connacht Schools Championships will be held at Loughrea Golf Club on  15 April

Munster District Championships will be held on Friday March 22nd at Charleville Golf Club

East Leinster Schools Championships will take place on Friday 22nd March at Clontarf Golf Club.

The 2013 Irish Schools final will take place on Monday 29th April at Milltown Golf Club.
